Project Alternates
In January 2026, the project team estimated that the total cost of the Pilgrim and Toll Gate High School projects, including all potential alternates under consideration at that time, could reach approximately $373 million. As project budgets continue to be refined, the Warwick Public Schools project team has evaluated these alternates and identified which items are currently expected to proceed, which remain priorities but require additional funding, and which are not currently being advanced.
Included in the Current Project Budget
The following alternates are currently expected to proceed within the $350 million budget:
Concrete Floor Slab Moisture Mitigation (Pilgrim and Toll Gate)
Funding has been identified within the project budget to provide moisture mitigation beneath finished flooring to support long-term flooring performance and warranty requirements.
New Grass Practice Field (Toll Gate)
This alternate is currently included in the project budget and will provide Toll Gate with a multipurpose grass practice field.
CTC Building Window Replacement
Funding has been identified to replace windows at the Career and Technical Center. This work will improve energy efficiency and overall building performance.
High-Priority Items Requiring Additional Funding
Several important project elements remain priorities for the district but are not currently included within the construction budget:
*Baseball and Softball Fields and Athletic Equipment (Pilgrim and Toll Gate)
This scope remains a high priority; however, the cost exceeds currently available project funding.
*Concessions Building (Toll Gate)
The concessions building, including public restrooms, remains a priority but is not currently funded within the project budget.
Perimeter Fencing Improvements (Pilgrim)
This scope remains under consideration but is not presently funded.
*If the district proceeds with the baseball and softball fields, the plumbing code requires that the concessions building be completed for access to public restrooms.
Lower-Priority Alternates
The following alternates are not currently being advanced and would only be considered if substantial additional funding becomes available:
CTC Building Facade Panel Upgrades
Tennis Court Refurbishment (Pilgrim and Toll Gate)
Greenhouse Building (Toll Gate)
Early Childhood Program Playground (Pilgrim)
What Additional Funding May Be Needed for Athletic Facilities and the Concessions Building?
The baseball and softball fields and the Toll Gate concessions building remain important priorities for the district. However, due to their costs, these items cannot be funded within the existing project budget and would require additional funding to proceed.
The amount of additional funding that may ultimately be required cannot yet be determined with certainty. Several major procurements, including furniture, fixtures, and equipment, remain ahead, and contingency funds must be maintained until the projects are further advanced. As construction progresses and remaining project costs become better defined, the district will continue evaluating available funding capacity and the funding gap associated with these improvements.
